June 29th - July 9th, 2003

Chula Vista, USA, Rotary – Cuzco, Peru, Rotary

What an experience ! With the support of the Chula Vista Rotary Club and PAMS, Dr Sanchez organized a medical mission to Cuzco. In total, over 40 people were involved from planning to executing the mission. We had an amazing time seeing Peru and helping many people in need. We assisted in areas ranging from medical support and educational issues to engineering consulting. You will be able to look up more information on this webpage over the next few weeks as we are still recapping and summarizing. Here is a one glance shot.

The Five W's (Who, What, Where, When, & hoW)

WHAT: Helping children in the Andean village of Andahuaylillas; providing medical, dental and optometric service, educating and assist with personal and dental hygiene. The group also traveled to the village of  Huatata to provide similar services.
WHERE: Peru, South America. Arriving at Sea Level in Lima we traveled to Cuzco, high in the Andes of southern Peru (Cuzco is about 10,000 feet above sea level) with a side trip to Machu Picchu (approximate altitude 8,000 feet).

WHEN: Early summer of 2003 was the time frame for this adventure. During that time it was winter south of the Equator. We departed San Diego on June 29th and returned on July 9th. We where very lucky with the weather, every day was a sunny, blue sky, except in Lima of course.
HOW: The Chula Vista Rotary Foundation organized the tour which included airfare, hotel and travel accommodations within Peru, the trip to Machu Picchu, and some meals. The cost was about $1800 plus whatever you wished to donate.
